We braced for Ike by filling gas tanks, grocery shopping, and securing items in our yard. The kids were all nervous about the prospects of high winds and possible severe weather (to include tornados) in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. This was to be the storm of the year! And then....NOTHING HAPPENED!
We were blessed with a little rain and a slight breeze as Hurricane Ike quickly moved off to the east of us. The weather reports and News channels kept talking about how the storm could still be hurricane as it passed through Northeast Texas. Although our thoughts and prayers go to those in Galveston and Houston who have severe damage and power outages, we are grateful the storm died out as it moved northward.
Wow, we must have had a really exciting week if all I can write about is the weather! The kids are plugging a long at school. Rachel is finding 4th grade a lot more difficult than previous years. She is having to work harder and pay more attention to details. I guess this may be the year where she decides school is not all that fun. I hope not, but we'll see. Alyson and Matthew are enjoying time outside with friends. We've had several nights where we sat out in the yard while kids ran all over, rode bicycles and scooters, and played with sidewalk chalk. I love this time of year.
Dave is busy, busy, busy. If he's not officiating a football game, then he's working on his Mustang. The inside is coming along nicely. He is slowly refinishing the inside panels and nobs. The back seat almost looks brand new. He is proud of the work he is accomplishing - looking forward everyday to the time he can actually drive it around town!
